GoDaddy Hacked, 1.2 Million WordPress Subscribers E-mail Leaked

 simplebloggertutorial.com - The case of data leakage has occurred again.  This time, the victim is GoDaddy, a web hosting service provider from the United States (US) which has more than 20 million customers in the world.


 As a result of this data leak, e-mails belonging to 1.2 million WordPress subscribers who use GoDaddy hosting, were leaked.


 WordPress is a web-based content management system used by millions of people to create blogs or websitesGoDaddy itself does allow its customers to install WordPress on their servers.


 In a document to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), GoDaddy's chief information security officer Demetrius Comes said the breach was detected Wednesday (11/17/2021).


 According to Comes, the company detected unauthorized access to the system where it manages the WordPress servers.


 According to Comes, hackers used the leaked passwords and broke into the system.  It is not clear whether the leaked password uses two-factor authentication or not.  The action allegedly took place around 6 September.

 "After identifying this data leak incident, we immediately blocked hackers from our systems," Comes said.



 He continued, investigations related to this burglary is still ongoing.


 "Hackers use the vulnerability to gain access to customer information," Comes said.


 The data from GoDaddy's Managed WordPress customers that hackers have stolen are as follows:


 1.2 million emails (active and inactive) and subscriber numbers

 The original WordPress Admin password that was set during the service provisioning process

 Username and password for File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and database belonging to active customers

 The active subscriber's Secure Socket Layer (SSL) security protocol key is unlocked.

 Regarding exposed customer data, Comes said, leaked customer e-mails can pose a phishing risk.


 Meanwhile, as a security measure, he said that GoDaddy had already reset the passwords of the exposed Managed WordPress customers.


 "We are also in the process of issuing and installing new SSL certificates for active customers affected by this breach."
