Restore WordPress Blogs Manually and Automatically - Simple Blogger Tutorial @SEO Services

What happens if your wordpress blog gets error problems, gets hacked, suspends web hosting and so on? if it's just a dummy blog of course it won't be a problem but what if the blog is in the form of our favorite blog because it has made a lot of money?

There are lots of ways to back up a blog from the most difficult, easy to the easiest way to backup a wordpress blog. Well in this article I want to explain step by step (step by step) backup our wordpress blog.

How to Backup WordPress Blog Manually

In our wordpress public_html folder there must be 3 folders, namely:

  • Wp-admin
  • Wp-content
  • Wp-includes
  • Of the three folders, just the contents in the wp-contents folder that you downloaded. The trick is:

    First Step Backup Files:

  • Login to your web hosting cpanel then click "File Manager"
  • Click/open the Wp-content folder then: 1. click “select all” and 2. Click Compress
  • Wait for it to finish then click/select the compressed file then click download and save it on your computer
  • Step Two Backup Database:

Still in your cpanel click the menu icon "PhpMyAdmin"

  • Click/select the database used
  • Click Export
  • Click Go
  • Save it on your computer again
  • Tip: Create a folder on your computer based on the domain name and backup date if you have multiple wordpress blogs.

How to Backup WordPress Blog Using Plugins

The second backup method is to use a plugin. This method is quite easy too but sometimes it becomes a problem in the restore process if the size of your wordpress blog is too large.

Plugins that are often used to backup WordPress blogs include:

    WordPress Blog Backup Plugin

BackWPup Free – WordPress Backup Plugin

You can install this plugin on your wordpress with just a few clicks. However, you have to buy a large web hosting space so that the automatic backup process runs well. You can read a tutorial on how to use it here: http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-create-a-complete-wordpress-backup-for-free-with-backwpup/

    XCloner – Backup and Restore

XCloner – Backup and Restore has the same functionality as the first plugin but is easier to use because you don't have to do cron settings which can sometimes lead to problems between you and the web hosting provider.

How to Restore a WordPress Blog

For those who use the WordPress backup method manually, you can follow the method below, while those who use the automatic WordPress backup plugin can follow the tutorial provided by the plugin provider.

    Restore WordPress Websites Manually

If you follow the manual backup as I explained above then you already have a backup file in the form of the contents of the wp-content folder and the database file.

There are two steps that you must do when restoring a wordpress web to return to normal, namely:

    Restore WordPress File

If your WP blog has serious damage problems that you have to reinstall then do the following:

Please login to the cpanel web hosting that you purchased and then install fresh wordpress using the Auto Installer, Softaculous or Fantastico feature (depending on availability/provided web hosting). After your wordpress blog has been installed, the next steps are:

  • click the “File Manager” icon then click/open the “wp-content” folder
  • Click upload
  • Upload the backup file that you created earlier into the wp-content folder then wait for it to finish
  • Click Extract your backup files
  • Restore WP Database Manually

While still logged in to cpanel, click the "PhpMyAdmin" menu icon and select the database associated with your WP.

  • Scroll down until you find the tick box "Check All" then click the check box until all database tables are selected, continue by selecting "Drop" in the dropdown menu option (to remove the contents of the default wordpress fresh install database).
  • After you have successfully "dropped" the database, now click the database again and then click "Import"
  • Click browse and select the database backup that you have created then click "Go" wait for it to finish
  • Up here, your blog's worpdress will be back up as usual.

Tips: if your WP blog is damaged due to being hacked, you can check the error log in cpanel or in the public_html folder because every error event is always recorded in the error log and usually hackers take advantage of the Vuln Plugin that you use by looking for errors first. before getting the data path and penetrating.
